September 26th, 2024 by

As the automotive industry shifts toward electrification, Ford seeks to gain a competitive edge by producing innovative and sustainable electric vehicles (EVs) that don’t compromise on performance and capability. For the 2025 model year, its EV lineup consists of the high-performance Mustang Mach-E SUV and the remarkably capable F-150 Lightning pickup truck. Both of these models boast an array of cutting-edge Ford EV technology innovations that make them stand out in their respective segments, from potent electric motors to extended-range batteries. Let’s look at the best Ford EV models to see if they can meet your expectations.

Introduction to Ford EVs

Ford EVs are state-of-the-art vehicles that come with the latest technologies and features in the EV industry. They set themselves apart from their competitors by delivering exceedingly high levels of performance and capability. Yet, they’re eco-friendly vehicles that provide excellent fuel efficiency and an impressive driving range.

Evolution of Ford’s EVs

For Ford electric cars, 2025 is expected to bring only minor changes. Both the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning are still in their first generation, meaning they’ve yet to undergo a major refresh. However, the Mustang Mach-E gained a new rear-mounted electric motor and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries over the past few years, which increased its horsepower output and range. As for the F-150 Lightning, updates came mostly in the form of new packages, features, and color options.

Key Features of Ford’s EVs

Ford EVs are able to deliver incredible performance and capabilities due to their power-packed electric motors. They also come with high-density batteries that provide an excellent range and quick charging times. These features make them both enjoyable to drive and practical.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Mustang Mach-E is the only model in the 2025 Ford electric SUV lineup. Nonetheless, it’s a first-rate EV that provides a thrilling driving experience and a long driving range. It also boasts a wealth of advanced Ford electric vehicle features to make your trips easier, more enjoyable, and safer, including a feature-rich SYNC 3 infotainment system and plenty of driver-assistance technologies.

Overview of the Mustang Mach-E

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E will likely receive only minor updates as it’s set to enter its second generation in 2027. It carries over the same powertrain and performance features that have made its predecessor one of the fastest Ford vehicles ever built.

Powertrains and Performance

The new Ford Mustang Mach-E has several powertrain setups for you to choose from. Rear-wheel-drive models are fitted with a single electric motor that serves up 264 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque with the Standard-Range Battery and 290 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque with the Extended-Range Battery. In all-wheel-drive models, there are two electric motors producing 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque with the GT Extended-Range Battery and 480 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque with the GT Performance upgrade. The GT Performance model can sprint from zero to 60 mph in a mind-blowing 3.3 seconds.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is expected to be completely redesigned for 2026. Therefore, the 2025 version will most likely be a carry-over model. Still, it continues to be the immensely capable pickup that dominates its segment.

Introduction to the F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning is a well-rounded pickup truck that excels in almost every department, from towing capacity to technology. It’s also a versatile truck that can pull double duty as a workhorse and an everyday driver. Moreover, it features a spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped cabin that makes it a great family hauler.

Power and Capabilities

Regardless of which model you choose, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is equipped with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain. This powertrain develops 452 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque with the Standard-Range Battery and 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque with the Extended-Range Battery. Models with the Extended-Range Battery can hit 60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds, which is impressive for such a large vehicle. They’re also capable of towing up to 10,000 pounds.

Battery Technologies and Capacities

Currently, Ford offers two types of batteries on its EV models: lithium-ion batteries and LFP batteries. Found in the earlier versions of the Mustang Mach-E and all F-150 Lightning models, lithium-ion batteries are high-density batteries that provide an outstanding driving range. LFP batteries are more advanced than their lithium-ion counterparts, offering enhanced durability and an even longer range. The batteries of Ford EVs are liquid-cooled to improve charging times and maximize performance in extreme weather conditions.

Capacities Across Different Models

If you decide to buy the Ford Mustang Mach-E, you have two battery packs to choose from. The 70-kWh Standard-Range Battery gives you a maximum range of 250 miles, while the 91-kWh Extended-Range Battery offers up to 320 miles of range. The Ford F-150 Lightning can travel up to 230 miles on a full charge with its 98-kWh Standard-Range Battery and 320 miles with its 131-kWh Extended-Range battery.

Charging Times

When plugged into a DC fast-charger, the Ford Mustang Mach-E can charge from 10% to 80% in about 32 minutes with the Standard-Range Battery and around 36 minutes with the Extended-Range Battery. With a 240-volt outlet or Level 2 charger, you can fully replenish the battery in as little as 11 hours.

If you use DC fast-charging, you can juice a standard-range F-150 Lightning from 15% to 80% in 32 minutes or an extended-range model in 38 minutes. It takes 10 to 13 hours to charge the truck from 15% to 80% with a Level 2 charger.
